Informal poll of local Steelworkers
Here's a bit of surprising news. Of the informal straw poll taken of members of our local Steelworkers Union here in Texarkana (after the conventions), approximately 30% will be voting for Obama. The others won't be staying at home, either -- they'll be voting for McCain.

i suppose from those numbers that for better or worse, they make the calculations on whom to vote for based on something, or many things combined, that isn't dominated by the circumstances of their employment and union membership?
one could infer that they are willing to sacrifice a measure of their own personal benefit for their perceived greater benefit to the nation and it's future.
or one could question to what extent they understand the potential sacrifice to their own personal benefit they are presumably intent upon making.
most curious either way.
p.s.
but then people often make public assertions quite different than those contemplated and acted upon in the privacy of a voting booth.
According to a union official, they say they just can't vote for a muslim. When his fundamental base is believing this stuff, he's in bad shape in places like this.
It is supposed that vote is personal and private but as we all know that is not handled that way anymore.
I think people give to much attention to the small things without taking a look to the big picture. That is what matters most.
